2010 Saturday Series

Last year’s line-up included the ever popular Voyageur Canoe outing, tours of some of our best local treasures, and an exciting special members' event.

• Robinson Woods Workday - The Stewardship Committee introduced a group of members to our new 80-acre preserve, where they removed invasive plants and then went exploring.

• Raptors: America's Birds of Prey – Presented at the New Buffalo Performing Arts Center, this was a program by the Wild Bird Sanctuary out of St. Louis, MO.  Take a look at some of the wonderful birds we were introduced to...  (More photos in the photo gallery!)

•  Mud Lake Bog Tour - A sizeable group of COL members ventured to Buchanan, Michigan to visit this rare floating mat bog, led by Berrien County naturalist Kip Miller.  Among the interesting inhabitants of the bog are carnivorous plants and wild cranberries.  (Additional Mud Lake Bog photos here!)

• Voyageur Canoe Outing – Outings on these replicas of traditional 30 foot voyageur canoes are always popular.  We paddled into the Louis J. Sima Marsh, one of the last remaining Great Lakes marsh environments, to explore.

First Saturday Volunteer Program

On Saturdays spanning May through September, volunteer land stewards work to implement the management plans for COL preserves. These activities can include non-native plant removal, planting native species, monitoring and restoring habitats. All workdays begin at 9:45 a.m. Michigan time and meet at the COL office.
